SUPPLEMENTAL - INTRODUCTION


INTRODUCTION TO "LEASE DATA BASE SUPPLEMENT"

     This study is intended to supplement an earlier compilation of lease 
clauses, "Lease Data Base," (November 1979).  Numerous changes, particularly 
in escalation clauses, have appeared in recent months, and many members 
contributed new material for this volume.
     The original report covered several categories of clauses not included 
here.  The two reports should thus be used in tandem to obtain complete 
coverage of common lease clauses.  (Section III of this study contains an 
index for this volume, as well as for the 1979 volume.)
     The clauses are organized under an alphanumeric plan which is designed to 
enable members to set up storage of the clauses in word processing or computer 
systems.  Following is that organization plan.

     IDRC has published much material on leasing, and several aspects of 
leasing have been covered at IDRC seminars.  A particularly good starting 
point for discovering the issues and problems associated with leasing can be
