Saxony-Anhalt: Central Germany's polymers and plastics hub
Central Germany's chemicals industry flourished after the fall of the Berlin Wall, and today Saxony-Anhalt's chemical plants are amongthe most modern in the world. Close cooperation between branches of the chemicals and plastics industries is a key driver of innovation across the entire value chain. High-end research and development capabilities help make Saxony-Anhalt a prime European location for chemical industry projects by any measure.
Investors in this key sector will find five chemical parks, 15 research centers, two universities and eight universities of applied science. Other cluster attributes include efficient connections to markets and suppliers, a plentiful supply of raw materials, a high acceptance of the industry from the population and politicians and a productive and competent labor force. Saxony-Anhalt, therefore, is the heart of Central Germany's chemicals and plastics industries. More information on these sectors can be found in the new Cluster-Altas at www.invest-in-saxony-anhalt.com.

| "Why do I read Site Selection?" |
As a dedicated community and economic researcher, it's in my blood to want to compare our metro and state to everywhere else. The well-designed Site Selection rankings frequently validate Greater Des Moines' economic development efforts, at the same time offering that all-important outside opinion of our area's caliber for business and life. But, honestly, who could resist opening a magazine with Bob Gravlee's whimsical Governor's Cup portraits on the cover? They put a smile on my face every bit as big as a good ranking!
