FROM THE ARCHIVES: The nuclear power industry is abuzz over the U.S. Dept. of Energy’s loan guarantees announced two days ago for two new nuclear reactors at Southern Co.’s Plant Vogtle, near Augusta, Ga. Site Selection paid a visit to that plant a while back in order to profile the potential expansions for our July 2007 cover story “Power Punch.” Attentive readers will note that some dollar figures have changed since then, and they’re not lower.

Pole Position for Saxony-Anhalt in German Federal State Rankings
Twenty years after German reunification, Saxony-Anhalt is the surprise winner of the Federal State Rankings, a scientific study by WirtschaftsWoche magazine that evaluates the best places to work, live and invest in Germany. Saxony-Anhalt ranks first in this dynamic comparison of Germany’s 16 federal states.
According to the analysis, Saxony-Anhalt benefited significantly from improving economic conditions between 2006 and 2008. No other state has seen as strong an increase in tax revenue and productivity. Tax revenue in Saxony-Anhalt, an important indicator of economic performance, rose by 72.2 percent – more than double the national average.
"The hard work of recent years has been worth the effort,” says Dr. Reiner Haseloff, Minister for Economy and Employment. “The fact that we rank at the top of this dynamic comparison speaks volumes about the efficiency of our companies and workers and of the proper economic policy frameworks that we have put in place.”

| "Why do I read Site Selection?" |
Based on our project load at any given point, we may be focused on one or more specific regions of the country. Reading Site Selection helps get us out of location-specific details with a good, comprehensive, macro-level update on what is happening throughout the country. Other attributes that we like are the industry-level reports and the project-specific reports."
