A wheat starch factory opens in Saxony-Anhalt

Food Retail and Production CS GmbH has opened a new wheat starch factory in the Zeitz Industial Park in southern Saxony-Anhalt. The company invested approximately €50 million in the plant. More than 60 employees have been hired so far, and that number should rise to 100.

The plant will process about 130,000 tons of wheat annually from Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia into modified wheat starch and vital gluten. Customers include the food, chemical, paper, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. Newsprint, toothpaste, tablets and bakery products all contain starch.

The factory is an important partner in regional agriculture as a processor of wheat from areas within a 120-km. radius.
The Zeitz Industrial Park is a key industrial location in Burgenlandkreis. It was developed on the site of a former hydro plant in Zeitz and has an area of 237 hectares. More than a third of the park is available for development.
