A New Type of Solar Thin-Film Modules from Saxony-Anhalt
The Malibu GmbH & Co. KG manufacturing plant in Saxony-Anhalt has been given the official go-ahead to begin the production of a new type of solar thin-film modules. Malibu is a joint venture company in which E.ON AG and Schüco International KG hold 50/50 shares.
With an investment amounting to more than €100 million, approximately 120 new jobs in Saxony-Anhalt have been created. The thin-film manufacturing plant near Magdeburg enables the manufacture of PV-modules out of exceptionally large glass sheets of up to 5.7m² (2.20 x 2.60m), whereby the production costs of solar modules are reduced and the production efficiency is considerably increased.
Saxony-Anhalt has developed into a major centre of the European float glass industry. Following completion of a new works by f I glass GmbH in Osterweddingen in August 2009, Saxony-Anhalt will boast a total of four float glassworks. In addition, Agenda Glas AG is constructing a glassworks plant with an annual capacity of circa 95,000 tons in Gardelegen.
