'International Solar Technology Award' for Solar Valley Germany
The trade magazine Photovoltaics International distinguished the Solar Valley Germany in Thalheim/Bitterfeld-Wolfen as the world's best region for solar industry companies. Jury members from business, science and research gave the region the highest score in a total of six categories, e.g., the concentration of manufacturers and suppliers, employee potential, and infrastructure for industry and logistics. Solar Valley came out on top of the "Silicon Border" in Mexico and the State of Oregon.
The first "International Solar Technology Awards" prizes were awarded in eight different categories. The Investitions und Marketinggesellschaft mbH (IMG) took the initiative and entered the "Solar Valley" for the prize in the category "Best Region for Manufacturing Solar Technologies."
The "Solar Valley" is one of the fastest-growing industrial areas in Central Europe, and it focuses on the solar industry and sub-suppliers. Almost 20 percent of the solar cells produced throughout the world, and 80 percent of those produced in Europe, now come from the Thalheim/Bitterfeld-Wolfen area.
