This week's SiteNet Dispatch brings readers new and exclusive stories from the September 2008 Site Selection:

The Labeler Has Landed: Finnish labeling firm UPM Raflatac in June opened a new US$100-million, 225,000-sq.-ft. (20,903-sq.-m.) manufacturing facility in Dixon, Ill., part of the I-88 corridor west of Chicago. Pictured above is UPM Raflatac Global President Heikki Pikkarainen speaking at the factory's grand opening.

There's more expansion news online in global project coverage from London-based partner Oxford Intelligence. This week's installment includes:

  • "Zycko Lands in Spain"
  • "Daimler to Recruit 1000 New Staff"
  • "K + N Launches Branch in Norway"
  • "Essent to Open Office in Oslo"
  • "Abriso Establishes Plant in Poland"

Where in the World? Now that's what I call good eatin' . . . and eatin' . . . and (insert gastric distress) eatin'. Yes, we've got "the world's largest commercially available hamburger" (pictured) for you here, weighing in at an absolutely ridiculous 164.5 pounds (74 kilograms). Can you name the city in which this humongous hamburger is made?

And in our previous "Where in the World?" some 37 percent of Dispatch readers correctly identified Cut Bank, Mont., as the home of "the world's largest penguin." Another 20 percent thought, quite logically, that the penguin's home was in Reykjavík, Iceland.

IAMC at IEDC: If you're going to be in the Atlanta area next week,
you may want to plan to attend the Wednesday morning session of the International Economic Development Council's Annual Conference at the downtown Hyatt Regency Atlanta. The end-users' panel, moderated by IAMC Executive Director Ron Starner, is the first ever at IEDC, and is sure to provoke some interesting exchanges with the economic developers gathered from around the world. The program is set for 8:30-10:00 a.m. on Oct. 22 at the Hyatt Regency. For registration details, go to www.iedconline.org.
