Sick and tired of high gas prices? Consider the Compressed Air Vehicle (CAV): It gets 106 miles a gallon (45 kilometers a liter), can go 96 miles (155 kilometers) an hour, and costs less than US$18,000. And CAV manufacturing is coming to the U.S., most likely in the Northeast or California, as this week's SiteNet Dispatch reports.

It's a Clean Machine: The CAV, invented by Motor Development International Chairman and Managing Director Guy Negre (pictured), will emit about 70 percent less CO2 than Toyota's Prius Plug-in Hybrid.

This week's SiteNet Dispatch brings readers new and exclusive stories from the May 2008 issue of Site Selection, including:

Expansion in the Air: Siemens Power Generation is one of the many companies expanding in Iowa. It was only in August of 2007 that Siemens' wind turbine plant in Fort Madison shipped out its first giant product (pictured above). By February of this year, the company had decided to enlarge the Fort Madison facility, announcing a $33-million, 287-job expansion.
There's more expansion news online in global project coverage from London-based partner Oxford Intelligence. This week's installment includes:
  • "Neste Oil to Establish Dutch Plant"
  • "Honda to Invest in Philippines"
  • "Irdeto Opens Office in Japan"
  • "Daewoo Plans Plant in Poland"
  • "T-Systems Opens Office in Singapore"

Where In the World? This life-size statue commemorates "the world's tallest man," who stood almost nine feet (2.73 meters) tall - and lived a quiet but quite remarkable life. Can you name the city in which this statue sits?

Good reasons for Aschersleben/Germany - 'Investors are cordially welcomed!'

Aschersleben anticipates successfully siting four new businesses this year with an investment volume of ca. 12 million euros. Two new companies set up shop in 2007 with a capital expenditure of 7 million euros. Six firms carried out expansion investments totalling 36 million euros. The majority of capital invested in Aschersleben hails from other European countries and North America. The high level of internationalization is also reflected in the high export quota of the processing industry: almost 40 per cent. Locally made products are exported to the UK, France, Eastern Europe, China, Russia and the US. Production of non-wovens has been a fixed factor in the town's economic structure since the 1990s. Trade and industrial estates provide further space for growth: another 27 hectares (67 acres) net area were made available during the current expansion phase of trade estate 'Güstener Straße'.
