Arkansas is on a roll for foreign investment, with India's Man Industries now bringing a US$100-million, 300-employee plant to the Port of Little Rock. It's the third major foreign firm in less than a year to announce a large-scale expansion at the port on the Arkansas River ... as this week's SiteNet Dispatch explains.

Traveling the Arkansas Pipeline: Man Industries will manufacture helical submerged arc welded pipes (pictured above) in Little Rock for the petroleum industry. The company is currently shipping its large, weighty products to the U.S. market from Man's plants in India.

This week's edition of the SiteNet Dispatch brings readers new and exclusive stories from the March 2008 Site Selection, including:

Heavy Expansions into the EU's Expansion: Schaeffler Group opened this $97-million rolling bearing plant in Debrecen, Hungary, in September of last year. Hungary, the Czech Republic and Poland have been major beneficiaries of the European Union's expansion, together pulling in some $4 billion in investment from 2004 to 2007.
There's more expansion news online in global project coverage from London-based partner Oxford Intelligence. This week's installment includes:
  • "Bank of Ireland Opens Sydney Office"
  • "Hitachi Chemical Expands in Singapore"
  • "MAN to Expand Plant in Denmark"
  • "Mitsubishi to Expand Engine Output in China"
  • "Lazard Establishes Hong Kong Office"
Where in the World? What, you may well ask, is that humongous thing pictured here, and why is it sitting in the middle of that building? That, dear readers, is "the world's biggest banjo." Can you name the city that's home to this decidedly unconventional piece of storefront signage?

Saxony-Anhalt - Further Investment In The Centre Of European Flat Glass Industry

Scheuten-Group (Venlo/Netherlands) will build a 190 million euro flat glass production plant in Saxony-Anhalt, adding 260 employees. Production of the f-glass GmbH plant starts at the end of 2009. With factories and subsidiaries in Europe, Korea and the U.S., Scheuten will produce about 220,000 tons of flat glass per year in Saxony-Anhalt. Furthermore, a fabrication of heat protection glass and solar glass coatings is planned. "Our market is the entire European market," says Herbert Köhler, Managing Director of f-glass GmbH. "We decided to invest in Saxony-Anhalt because everything is just fine there - from the supply of resources up to the logistic connection." Saxony-Anhalt strengthens its position as a centre of the flat glass industry with sites in Wolfen (Guardian), Haldensleben and Osterweddingen (Euroglas). Saxony-Anhalt will supply about one-third of Germany's flat glass production and about 10 percent of Europe's.
