Who's redeveloping a major site to pump up efficiencies and cash flow? The United States Postal Service, that's who. The agency is shopping a hot downtown Chicago site that's drawing so much interest that it crashed the RFP Web site, as this week's SiteNet Dispatch explains.

Plum Property? Developers are lining up to get a crack at redeveloping the site for the USPS's Fort Dearborn Station (pictured) in downtown Chicago, smack dab in the middle of the fast-growing River North area.

This week's edition of the SiteNet Dispatch brings readers new and exclusive stories from the March 2008 Site Selection, including:

Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development and North Carolina's Touchstone Energy cooperatives.

Private-Sector Takeoff: The private sector, not government, generates the greatest returns and best services in developing airport cities, contends University of North Carolina Professor John Kasarda (pictured), who assists communities worldwide in creating large developments centered on air travel.
There's more expansion news online in global project coverage from London-based partner Oxford Intelligence. This week's installment includes:
  • "Brace Automotive Opens French Office"
  • "FircoSoft Launches London Office"
  • "EuroMaint Opens Workshop in Latvia"
  • "Alcatel-Lucent Plans Facility in Russia"
  • "Novaled Launches Subsidiary in Japan"
Where in the World? What do you do if you have "the world's biggest banjo" in your building? Why, you stick the neck out the front window. Can you name the city that's home to this decidedly unconventional piece of storefront signage?
