This week's SiteNet Dispatch offers case studies that demonstrate venture capital's potent catalytic role in business expansion in the U.S. Northeast, reported by Amy Zuckerman, the woman who coined the term "hidden tech." (For more on venture capital's impact on New York City and the Hudson Valley, see the expanded Web feature debuting immediately below.)

This issue of the SiteNet Dispatch brings you new and exclusive stories from the January 2008 issue of Site Selection, including:

D'Addario and Co., the world's largest manufacturer of musical instrument strings
Zing Went the Big Apple Strings: Jim D'Addario (inset), chairman and CEO of D'Addario and Co., the world's largest manufacturer of musical instrument strings, says his team searched the entire East Coast before deciding that Babylon, N.Y., was the most harmonious choice for expanding its 700-employee manufacturing/distribution operation (pictured).
THE SITENET DISPATCH IS SPONSORED BY:
Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development and New Jersey Commerce.

There's more expansion news online in global project coverage from London-based partner Oxford Intelligence. This week's installment includes:

Saxony-Anhalt: "Solar Valley" - EverQ laid foundation stone for third plant

EverQ is extending its production capacities for wafers, solar cells and modules in Bitterfeld-Wolfen, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. The new plant will go on stream already in Q1 2009 and increase the production capacity to 180 MW. The capital expenditure for the new plant amounts to €150 million and will create another 500 jobs.

"Solar Valley" near Bitterfeld-Wolfen is one of the biggest PV industry centres in Europe. Its output is nearly 10% of worldwide solar cell production. Success is primarily linked to one name: Q-Cells. The company has been making solar cells since 2001 and is on an unstoppable expansion course. The renewable energies sector is growing as rapidly as any: German market leader ENERCON manufactures wind power plants there. The biggest biomass processing plants are located in Saxony-Anhalt. This German state has the right to be called "first choice" for renewable energies.
